4th at the ranch

We have been so occupied trying to solve a sticky renter problem that I didn't think of the 4th. No one is here at our house. Karen invited us to a lovely dinner and will let us horn in on their family's fun. Doug and Mary are running Doug's jack-pot roping at the arena in Panguitch. He has put it all together. He won a saddle, which made Karen wonder if he should have won the saddle he had put up as prize. He asked Kathy's two teen aged boys to come help him. What nice kids!! They helped Danny put up a little hay and they had a good experience--grandpa and boys working together and talking and working together. Glen and I know how sort-of really fun haying can be. Maybe we could "rent" the job from someone sometime. We have been racking our brains trying to think of something to do with grandkids. We draw blanks. We can't go hiking or boating because we are too old. We need help to create fun.

Today, Sunday, the day is wonderful, cool, fresh green and oh so quiet! After reading how Glen T's paradise trip on Kawaii was mared by people, I think how blessed we are to have spot of world that we can control pretty well. The camp grounds are all full, people camping in the sagebrush up and down the road and, I'm sure, some are peeking into our ranch and thinking "Boy! would I ever like to own that!!!
Brent and Kriss and family were in Circleville, as they are every 4th, having a whole lot of Dalton fun! I know they love it, and I'm glad they have such a good relationship with Kris's family. I'm trying not to feel jealous. Brent called and offered to come up for few hours, but I assured him it wasn't necessary. I understand. Usually we drive down there on the 4th.
I met a lady yesterday in gallery. Glen spotted her and for some reason figured she would be someone I would like. He was right! She is 50 has 7 kids all athletic, writes, paints, etc, etc. I thought Sarah would really click with her, as she is near same generation. She lives in Annabelle by Richfield and comes to Panguitch often with these athletic kids who are playing in one baseball game or another. I expect I have a new friend.
Coming to ranch last night a rainbow looked to be ending right over our cabin. I had no camera. It did feel like we were coming to the end of the rainbow and our pot of gold. The ranch seems so nice I regret discouraging Glen from thinking of spending time here in his simi-retirement. If he could arrange his world to spend about six weeks here in summer and then rest of time in Kauaii, what a life!!
